Referrals
If you decide to refer a student, you need permission from the TEAM teacher, and a referral form must accompany the student to the office. The referral form should be filled out completely. Incomplete or missing forms may result in students being sent back to your class.
When filling out the form, narrate the incident as specifically as possible to convey what led up to the incident. Describe in detail what occurred and the steps you took to de-escalate the situation. Referring a student is a last resort and should only occur when you have exhausted all other management tools. Some actions, though, may necessitate an immediate referral: swearing, physical confrontations, verbal threats, or very inappropriate behavior. Use discretion. Make sure the students are aware that referrals may result in suspensions. Two referrals may result in immediate dismissal from summer school. |
