Duty
SAFETY is our #1 priority. Be aware of student conduct at all times. During summer school, you will need to be on duty monitoring behavior in the morning before school, during class changes, and after school until all students leave.
On duty, do not be a wallflower; engage students positively and instruct them on proper behavior as well as get to know them. It's ok to tell a student you like their shirt and you're happy to see them. Build positive relationships. If you need to correct behavior, address students individually. Yelling out is rarely the best solution. You will get much more accomplished by approaching the student and politely asking them to alter their behavior/appearance/etc. |
Types of behavior that need to be addressed: noise level in the hallway and cafeteria, dress code, inappropriate language, pushing and shoving, students bunching up in the hallway together, loitering, or any other kind of inappropriate or disruptive behavior.
TEAM teachers will not always address student behavior directly while on duty. At times, they will model appropriate interactions with students. At other times, they will act as silent observers and instruct 1Y and 2Y teachers to correct and address behavior. |
IN-BETWEEN CLASSES:
Please be on duty ahead of the students whenever possible and make sure you are a visible presence. Between classes you should be in the center of the hallway to help keep traffic flowing smoothly, unless you are in a bathroom or standing at a classroom door. Spread yourselves out and interact positively with students. Class changes are not a time to talk to other teachers.
