TIAI Evaluations
For Second Years
- The TIAI evaluation is not based on one formal lesson, as done at previous summer schools. It is a cumulative evaluation based on your two weeks at summer school and your past year of teaching.
- After week one of summer school, you will receive a TIAI check off from your TEAM teacher that will let you know what you need to work on. You will receive your official TIAI evaluation towards the end of your second week.
- Your TIAI score is tied to a grade for your portfolio course in the spring, EDSE 651.
- At the end of each week of summer school, your TEAM teacher will complete a TIAI check off for you that you need to print off and place under "Tab 4" in your MTC binder.
- Halfway through summer school, you will receive an official midpoint TIAI evaluation based on your progress thus far. At the end of the summer, you will receive a summative TIAI evaluation based on your improvement throughout the summer.
- Take some time to look over the rubric. Your check off forms and TEAM debriefings will help you brainstorm ways to incorporate as much as possible into your lessons throughout the summer to ensure you're improving and hitting different indicators.
- Your TIAI score is tied to one of your summer courses, EDCI 615.

Evaluation FAQ
Do I need to evaluate every lesson I watch?
Yes, but you only really need to focus on 3 highlights / 3 items to work on
Can I evaluate/observe teachers in other rooms?
Yes. It’s a good idea to see different teachers and teaching styles. If you are teaching at a middle school, seeing a middle school classroom would be very valuable to get a better idea of the management/teaching style appropriate for that age group. You must notify TEAM when/where you are evaluating other teachers (and again, fill in where you will be on our curriculum map) as well as complete an informal evaluation sheet to be turned in to the TEAM teacher in that room.
If I fail my evaluations, do I get another chance to pass?
1st years: YES, but if you do not show any improvement throughout the summer or exhibit some serious issues in the classroom, you will have to meet with the program director, Dr. Sweeney. In extreme cases, you could be asked to leave the program.
2nd years: YES, but it could force you to come back to summer school after your two weeks to make up the lesson/reach specific indicators.
Can I provide outside documentation to fulfill requirements for TIAI evaluation?
Yes, documentation from your regular school can be used to fulfill some of the indicators. However, any indicator that can be met during your time at summer school should be demonstrated in your classroom.
